The overall activity carried out in the three-year period of the PhD course provides 180 Training Credits for Research (CFR), of which 30 acquired for training activities and 150 attributed for the main research projects.
The training activities are distributed over the three-year course. At the beginning of each year PhD students, assisted by the tutors propose individual training plans through the form that can be downloaded at this link (Plan activities)
The overall plan must include:
at least 10 credits acquired through the attendance of the courses proposed in the Manifesto
at least 6 credits acquired through the attendance of transversal courses
at least 3 credits acquired through the attendance of an international PhD school
Additional activities may be recognized as long as they meet the principle criteria approved by the PhD board and can thus fill any educational gaps, deepen specific or cross-cutting advanced topics, and also aim to strengthen the student’s ability to be a player on the scientific or technical level in the international arena.
Such activities include:
participation in high-level scientific seminars and approved by the course coordinator
participation in working groups supervised by faculty members of the Board aimed at deepening specific topics and strengthening scientific communication skills
other activities provided they are approved by the board.
“Active” training activities are also recognized. Presentation at national and international conferences and or in the frame of internal seminars are suggested to train students in scientific communication and public speech.
The complete regulation to the training activities of the IEIE PhD school can be downloaded at this link (Set of rules)
The teaching activities proposed by the PhD Board of the course are organised into three curricula:
Photonics, Microwave Technologies and Communication Systems
Computer science and Automation
Industrial Engineering
Each student must accumulate a total of at least 10 credits by attending and passing the examinations of the courses .
In agreement with the tutor, the student may include courses from other curricula in his/her teaching plan if these are consistent with the training project.
The complete description of the courses is reported at this link
PhD students must include in the training plan transversal courses (at least 6 credits) which aim to strengthen communication, self-entrepreneurship and scientific project/article writing skills
